Stanley Gordon Elmore

Stanley Gordon Elmore, 65, of 715 Dellinger Road, departed this life on Monday, July 22, 2013, to join awaiting parents Geraldine “Shot” and James Lawrence, who preceded him in death. A native and resident of Cleveland County, he was born on November 30, 1947. He graduated from Douglas School, where he served as school mascot and Valedictorian of the Class of 1966. He attended Fayetteville State University. He was a member of Durham United Methodist Church, where he served among the Methodist Men. An active member of the Shelby Optimist Club, he was a Life Member of Optimist International and was elected to several key positions, served on various executive boards and statewide committees. He worked as a traffic manager and an advertising executive at WOHS-AM/WXIK-FM in Shelby until retirement. For many years he was self-employed as an Independent Sales Agent for Columbian Life Insurance and worked as a part-time security agent for U.S. Security Associates. Those left to cherish his memories are three children, Sergio Elmore (Kendra) of Greenville, S.C., Natasha Suber (Darryl) of Cornelius, and Twylain Wilson of Shelby; five sisters, Sabrina (John) Barrow of Shelby, Linda (James, Jr.) Bradshaw of Grover, Denise E. Dorsey, Claudia (Harvey) Hector, and Yvonne Wimbush, all of Lawndale; three brothers, Tim Elmore of Lawndale, Willie (Laura) Lawrence of Hickory, and Bobby (Nikki) Thompson of Greensboro; a cherished nephew, Johnny Bradshaw, and a special cousin, Cephus Clark, both of Shelby. His life was also extremely enriched by numerous adored nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, loving aunts and uncles, relatives and friends. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at Durham United Methodist Church, 320 Ross Grove Road East, Shelby, NC, 28150. A memorial service will immediately follow.
